That doesn't mean the Vleminckx or Pu findings are wrong — it means the honest picture includes real uncertainty about effect size.
What collagen supplements don't directly address
Elastin is a separate protein from collagen, and while some collagen peptides may indirectly support elastin-producing cells (fibroblasts), no major human trial has demonstrated that oral collagen supplementation restores lost elastin function specifically. This matters because elastin loss — not just collagen decline — is a large part of what makes skin look crepey rather than simply thinner.
